Congratulations to Lillian Berthung, whose photograph Amazing London Plane has won the first round of our photo competition, July to September 2026.

Her photograph catches one of the gardens’ great London planes standing on its carpet of fallen leaves, the whole crown spread above it. It now holds the front page of this website, where the winning photograph stays until the next results, and you can see every entry in the competition gallery.

The October to December round is open now, and the gardens are turning. Catch the planes going gold and the paths deep in leaves as the whole garden becomes a spread of autumn colour. Results of each round are announced at the start of the month after it closes; the next results day is on the Events page.

The competition is free and open to everyone, adults and under-18s alike.
